Today Square Enix has broken its silence about the upcoming JRPG Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which will serve as a sequel of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
The news, shared on Twitter and signed by producer Yoshinori Kitase, mentions that development is progressing smoothly and according to plan, while the publisher is working on nailing down a release date for the game.
This is interesting considering that Square Enix usually waits for the release of its big games before moving on to market the next, and we're just 20 days from the launch of Final Fantasy XVI. That being said, it's not very surprising, because the wait between the two titles may not be as long as usual. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was announced with a Winter 2023 release window, and today's message probably means that it's on track to hit that target.
If you're not familiar with the game, it's the second title of what is supposed to be a trilogy started with the Final Fantasy VII Remake. It was officially revealed almost exactly a year ago with a rather trippy trailer that most definitely brought up more questions for the fans than it answered. You can watch it below.
It's quite possible that we may hear about a release date of Final Fantasy VII rebirth, which is coming to PS5, earlier than we may have expected, especially considering that it's June, and Summer is usually full of reveals and events. While E3 won't happen, Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show are just around the corner.
