CI Games and Hexworks have released a new, extended Lords of the Fallen gameplay trailer.

The action-RPG, which lost its definite article back in March, is set to launch in early October, and this latest trailer gives a good-sized glimpse of what to expect when it arrives.

As you'd probably expect, the gameplay looks a whole lot like Dark Souls, but arguably in a good way; Lords of the Fallen has some pretty grotesque monsters on offer, as well as what looks like some intricate level design to explore.

The first area we get a look at in the new trailer is Skyrest Bridge, which has strong Stormveil Castle vibes.

We get to see the area boss, Pieta, "She of the Blessed Renewal", who will apparently be one of the first bosses you face in Lords of the Fallen

Like many bosses in the game, Pieta has "two very distinct stages", which will sound familiar if you're a Bloodborne or Elden Ring veteran.

The trailer also gives us a look at the Vestige Seedling, a resting point that can be spawned at fixed locations and that allows travel between Lords of the Fallen's two distinct gameplay worlds. Imagine The Medium crossed with Elden Ring and you're not far off.

We also get to see the player holding up a lantern that reveals certain hidden elements of the environment. It's a little like Bloodborne's Insight mechanic, only on demand.

Naturally, throughout the trailer, various different combat disciplines are also shown, including swordplay, sorcery, and hand-to-hand combat.

The next major location we get to see is Lower Calrath, an "ever-burning district" renowned for "displays of barbarity".

Appropriately enough, the geography of Lower Calrath is grotesque, and a number of vicious-looking enemies wait here to ambush the player around every corner.

As the trailer closes, we're shown the Spurned Progeny, the boss of Lower Calrath. It's suitably disgusting-looking, and should put paid to any worries that Lords of the Fallen will repeat the boring enemy design of its 2014 predecessor.

Lords of the Fallen is set to launch for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 6th. Stay tuned for more info on this promising-looking Soulslike.
